The shortage of air transport space from Japan to China continues as a result of the reduced operational capacity of Shanghai Pudong International Airport due to the tightening of quarantine by the Chinese government, and small and medium-sized forwarders in particular have been hit hard. The space available to Shanghai has been drastically reduced due to restrictions imposed by airlines, and transportation space to the airport is limited only to those under long-term contracts. There is no surplus space, and small and medium FWDs without long-term contracts cannot use the space for direct flights. The same is true for other gateway airports in China such as Beijing and Guangzhou. Detour routes using medium-sized airports are being utilized, but fares for such airports are rising rapidly.
